In our upcoming VEC meeting, we will

*CHIMPS FOUND USING A FORM OF SPEECH:

Webpreneurships 6/5 reports that chimps have been found to be using

rudimentary patterns of speech. It has been thought that only humans had the

brain capability to produce and use speech. I guess we have to review that!

SOME NEWS, OBSERVATIONS, AND QUOTES

*Red pilled: The term is going around. It’s pulled from the movie “The Matrix”

(1999) in which Morpheus gives Neo a choice: take a red pill to view the matrix as

it really is - a nefarious scheme where sentient machines have enslaved humans

for the machine’s use and are keeping them in a comfortable delusion - or take a

blue pill and remain in that delusion. Its use in current political terms is as follows:

“It is used to describe a process of radicalization [being red-pilled], often into far-right or alt-right beliefs, where

individuals believe they have discovered a hidden or suppressed truth about politics, society, and culture. [Google

Chrome]”

Some right-wing groups have appropriated the term, such as “manosphere”

groups to describe awakening to previously hidden “truths” about their

circumstances. Many political groups see “truth” in only very narrow terms, only

as it applies to them. As a woman, I understand and appreciate the struggles and

inequality women have suffered as exposed by the Feminist Revolution. Recently I

viewed a documentary on YouTube called “The Red Pill” that revealed the real

struggles of real, non-misogynistic men such as high suicide rates, feeling like

cannon fodder, and the pressures of being cast in the provider role among others.

These are real truths but, to my mind, lack the understanding that these are

human problems. Each of these groups is suffering under a system that has de-

humanized people and hammered them into beings that serve purposes devised

and wielded by ruling groups. Asking our sons to die in battle for oil in the middle

east (though it wasn’t presented that way) is horrific. We are “blue-pilled” into

thinking these deaths are patriotic. It’s like a pie where these individual groups see

only their piece. Our true evolution will come when we are able to see the whole

pie and care about it.

the moment and choosing not to be a part of it. This is our moment. Let’s not lose
