CALLS TO ACTION

CAMP BLANDING PROTEST

Many of you may be aware that Camp Blanding is slated to become another detention center for immigrant detainees. I have read that these detention centers will be operated by private contractors, who will send the detainees out to work in the fields while the detainees are paid in theircanteen account and the contractors use the majority of the funds to run the facility and pay staff. There is growing resistance to this plan.

Dari Smith sent me the following information:
Camp Blanding Protest
Jacksonville Immigrant Support Alliance, July
19th (Ethan Maia de Needell with Rural Women’s Health Project (RWHP)).
Information: 5629 FL 16 W, Starke, Florida, 3pm.

Ethan requested we share these two petitions:

Also, Ethan’s group will do a press conference here in Gainesville in front of Federal Courthouse (401 SE 1st Avenue) at 11 am (also press conference in Jacksonville). They want people to show up (bring signs!) and would like Hispanic faith leaders or other leaders who could speak at the press conference.

GOOD TROUBLE

Our next Resistance Rally!
It will take place at Cone Park, 2801 East University Avenue on July 17 th at 5:30 PM. Please bring your signs and voices to Fred Cone Park to advocate for justice for all people in our country! Yes, it will be hot, but even a few minutes to stand for justice is important.
