Sarah’s Voter Engagement Message

OUR JOB IS TO STAY IN THE FIGHT

CURRENT AND UPCOMING EVENTS:

*Our next VEC meeting will be held on Thursday, 1p, 2/5/2026, on Zoom. I will be sending the zoom link and agenda shortly before that. In our upcoming VEC meeting, we will continue to refine our direction into boycotts, buycotts, and distribution lists. We’ll hear reports from those of us doing research on the targeted companies.

*DWCAC members took to the streets today in remembrance and celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday and of his monumental contribution to humanity. Please check out our Facebook page for photos.

*ORDERS FOR T-SHIRTS: Orders are coming in! I will be sending our current order on 1/31/2026.

SOME NEWS, OBSERVATIONS, AND QUOTES:

*Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr: alive in our hearts and actions. January 15, 1929, saw  the birth of Michael King, Jr. His name was changed later to Martin Luther King, Jr. after the German reformer. Dr. King led the movement championing racial equality, focusing on the government’s role in making that happen. He was jailed 29 times and, while incarcerated, constantly tried to help white jailers see that their struggles were the same as those of the marchers. He tried to unite black and white workers in seeing their common struggles and problems. He saw the government as the key to dealing with poverty and was a constant thorn in the side of Lyndon Johnson, who did respond by passing the Civil Rights legislation in 1964. Dr. King won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 (for real!). Despite being pushed by more violent voices in the Civil Rights movement, Dr. King clung to his belief in non-violence and in the power of unified action. He realized he was speaking for a minority and needed to reach out and persuade the majority white population to join in the efforts for racial and class equality. Realizing that time can benefit oppressors, Dr. King was relentless in his constant appeals, not slacking off for a moment in his efforts.

This is the model for us. Let us be the constant thorn in Trump’s side. True freedom and equality needs constant refreshing. We cannot slack off either. As Dr. King quoted: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.

*I was dismayed this week by a poll conducted by Haystack and Reuters revealing that 41% of those interviewed support the invasion of Venezuela and the abduction of Maduro. I thought this was the country that fought a revolution to free ourselves of colonization and imperialism. MAGAs declared they were not supportive of foreign wars and entanglements. I’ve had people say to me that they believe that all that everybody in this country wants is peace and the ability to live their lives in a reasonable way. Then, in the next breath, they support the invasion of Venezuela. It’s been rightfully said that any country prefers its own bad government to one imposed on them by another country. Their bad government is their business to run. Only in the most extreme instances, such as in WWII, should measures be taken and only in defense.

Favoring invasion of other sovereign nations is not modern or civilized thinking. It is neo-feudalistic. Territorial expansion is not evolved behavior; it is barbaric and denies others their basic human rights. Venezuela: It’s an invasion: It’s illegal. Case closed. Kurt Vonnegut summed it up beautifully in “Hocus Pocus” as follows:

“Just because some of us can read and write and do a little math, that doesn’t mean we deserve to conquer the universe.”

At this point, polling shows only 1 person in 5 supports invading Greenland. The fact that there is any support at all for this imperialistic move is discouraging. Are we ready for real democracy?  Can we achieve a civilized state?

Call your representatives to tell them you are totally against this land grabbing. Keep in mind this wonderful poem by Marianne Williamson:

Our biggest fear is not that we are inadequate;

Our biggest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

KEEP YOUR EYE ON:

-Minneapolis is under severe threat. Between ICE troops and threats of bringing in actual army troops, fear is running high. The people of the city are showing amazing bravery and restraint.

-Note the change in accepted postmark dates; it has a big effect on acceptance of VBM Ballets. The postmark on the date of receipt at the post office is no longer used as the acceptance of VBM ballets. Rather, the date of processing, which could be days later, is now the official date. We must be sure to explain this fact as we hand out VBM forms.
